Melissa Bazan Bowen
Attorney
Melissa Bazan Bowen was born and raised in Harlingen, Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas at Austin and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November 2009.
During law school, Melissa gained valuable experience as a student attorney with the Wills and Probate Clinic. She also participated in Loyola Law School’s study abroad program at the United Nations University for Peace in Ciudad Colón, Costa Rica, where she focused on international human rights and environmental law.
Melissa has concentrated her practice primarily on family law. Her family law experience includes handling divorce, child custody, child support, modifications, enforcements, and paternity cases. She has been appointed as an amicus attorney in Harris County to represent the best interests of children and to facilitate adoptions. Melissa also has appellate experience having drafted appellate briefs and delivering an oral argument before the Second Court of Appeals in 2012.
Outside of her legal work, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and extended family, traveling, watching college football, and exploring Houston.
